Scrubs Returns to Its Roots with a Fresh Twist on the Original Title Sequence
The revival of *Scrubs* features a familiar title sequence, now set to “Superman” by Lazlo Bane, which originally served as the opening theme for the first eight seasons. Season 9, branded as “Med School,” had utilized a cover of the song performed by WAZ.
In a return to form, the opening sequence sees John “J.D.” Dorian (played by Zach Braff), Christopher Turk (Donald Faison), and Elliot Reid (Sarah Chalke) returning alongside a new class of interns. The characters walk toward the show’s iconic “Scrubs” X-ray image.
Reflecting the advancements in medical technology over the past 17 years since the original series concluded, the revival introduces a modern twist. J.D. now uses his iPad to display the digital X-ray, replacing the traditional physical image.
Watch on Deadline
The sequence begins with J.D. checking his watch while he and Turk are on the hospital floor. This moment, teased in the revival’s trailer, hints at J.D.’s involvement in declaring the time of death for their famous move, the Eagle, after both characters collapse attempting it.
The first two episodes of *Scrubs* will premiere back-to-back on Wednesday, February 25, at 8 PM ET/PT on ABC, with episodes available for streaming the following day on Hulu.
In this updated version of *Scrubs*, J.D. and Turk reunite in the operating room after a significant time apart. While the medical landscape and the interns may have transformed, their enduring friendship remains at the heart of the series, as they navigate the challenges of Sacred Heart Hospital with humor and unexpected twists.
Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison not only star in the series but also serve as executive producers. Original cast members Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley reprise their roles as Carla and Dr. Perry Cox, respectively.
The guest cast includes Vanessa Bayer, Rachel Bilson, Joel Kim Booster, Ava Bunn, Jacob Dudman, Neil Flynn, Lisa Gilroy, David Gridley, Phill Lewis, Robert Maschio, X Mayo, Christa Miller, Layla Mohammadi, Amanda Morrow, Andy Ridings, and Michael James Scott.
Executive producers for the new series include Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer from Doozer Productions. Aseem Batra serves as executive producer and showrunner, with Randall Winston also in the executive producer role. The series is produced by 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios.
