Firefighters in Huntington Beach Come to the Aid of a Fallen Baby Owl
Rescue of Young Owl in Huntington Beach
A baby great horned owl has been safely returned to its nest, thanks to the swift actions of firefighters in Huntington Beach. The incident occurred Wednesday when the approximately five- to six-week-old owl fell from its tree in a residential area.
According to a post from the Huntington Beach Fire Department, the young bird was "branching," a natural behavior where it hops from branch to branch as it develops its flying skills. However, the fire department noted that the owl had landed in a location frequented by dogs, posing a significant risk to its safety.
Firefighters, in collaboration with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, used a ladder to successfully return the fledgling to its nest. The rescue has sparked a wave of appreciation from the community, with many expressing gratitude for the quick response.
One Facebook user, Annette Ruth Berman, shared her relief and joy on social media, stating, "I went back today. Saw one of the owlets moving in the nest and one of the parents sitting next to the nest." Her comments reflect the widespread sentiment among residents who applauded the efforts of the firefighters in safeguarding the young owl.
