Jason Isaacs, Josh Gad, and Ruth Negga Join Peter Fellows in New WWII Dark Comedy “Bad Major” with Global Constellation and Gersh Board Sales
Global Constellation Partners with Gersh for New Dark Comedy "Bad Major"
Global Constellation has announced a collaboration with Gersh to manage sales for Peter Fellows’ upcoming dark comedy, Bad Major, set against the backdrop of World War II. The film features a compelling cast including Josh Gad, Jason Isaacs, and Ruth Negga.
As a subsidiary of the pan-European content group Vuelta, Global Constellation is responsible for international sales, while Gersh will handle North American rights.
Peter Fellows, known for his work on HBO’s Veep and Avenue 5, as well as the acclaimed features The Death of Stalin and The Personal History of David Copperfield, is making his feature directorial debut with Bad Major.
Set during the summer of 1942, the film follows a family whose teenage son is fighting at the front lines. In a bid to ensure his safety, they invite his unpredictable commanding officer to stay with them in their rural home. The storyline explores the psychological impacts of war, as the sociopathic major imposes his outlandish rules on the family, pushing their love and sanity to the extreme.
The film draws inspiration from István Örkény’s novella The Tót Family, reflecting themes of absurdity and survival drawn from the author’s own experiences in a Soviet labor camp during the war.
The cast also includes Tony Award winner Derek Jacobi and BAFTA nominee Rosie Jones. “I’m thrilled to be making Bad Major with this fantastic ensemble of brilliantly funny, powerful actors,” Fellows remarked. “My adaptation will ground these themes within a properly funny, heart-wrenching film about desperation, loss, and the absurd lengths to which human beings will go to protect the ones they love.”
Produced by Jon Tarcy and Ildikó Kemény, with Kevin Loader and Mike Goodridge serving as executive producers, Bad Major promises to combine humor with poignant commentary on the human condition.
Fabien Westerhoff, Managing Director of Global Constellation, expressed confidence in the film’s appeal: “Led by a terrific ensemble and Peter Fellows’ signature wit, Bad Major blends sharp humor with strong audience appeal to explore the frightening lengths love can push us to.”
Global Constellation is set to showcase two world premieres at the Berlinale, including Jérémy Comte’s Paradise and Sophie Heldman’s The Education of Jane Cumming. The company is also launching sales for the upcoming CG-animated feature Dragoons and will present initial footage from several projects, including the WWII drama Crux and the noir thriller Wild, Wild East.
