Lady Gaga Adds Her Touch to Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood Theme Song in Super Bowl Ad
Lady Gaga Reimagines Iconic Theme Song for Super Bowl Ad
In a recent Super Bowl advertisement for Redfin and Rocket, Lady Gaga showcased her unique interpretation of the beloved theme song from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. The ad, released on January 27, features Gaga’s heartfelt rendition of “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” originally performed by Fred Rogers himself.
Filmed in black and white at Shangri-La Studios, the advertisement highlights Gaga’s reflection on the significance of Fred Rogers’ legacy. "I just think about my earliest memories as a kid watching Mister Rogers, and I think about how much he meant to people, especially kids at home,” Gaga, now 39, stated. She emphasized the need for the piece to feel "heartfelt and kind and warm."
Throughout the advertisement, Gaga experiments with the tune, ultimately aiming to preserve the original’s "purity and beauty" while providing it with a modern twist. She expressed admiration for Rogers, acknowledging that he "stood for something" and pondering his perspective on contemporary issues. "It’s kind of a special song to revisit at this time,” Gaga noted, underscoring the emotional connection the song evokes.
Originally airing from 1968 to 2001, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood is a seminal children’s educational show that has touched the hearts of many.
Gaga’s performance coincides with her ongoing world tour in support of her latest studio album, Mayhem, which she released in March. The album includes 14 tracks and represents a return to her musical roots. "The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved,” she explained.
In a poetic reflection on her creative journey, Gaga likened the album’s style to "reassembling a shattered mirror," emphasizing the beauty that can emerge even from brokenness. This release marks her latest effort following renowned works such as The Fame, Born This Way, and collaborative albums with Tony Bennett.
As Gaga continues to reshape her artistry, her reinterpretation of this childhood classic serves as a poignant reminder of the timeless impact of Mister Rogers’ teachings.
