Filming Starts for Netflix’s New Shark Thriller ‘Under Paris 2’
Production Begins on ‘Under Paris 2’ Amid Anticipation of Sequel’s Success
Filming for Under Paris 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Netflix’s 2024 shark thriller, has officially commenced in the South of France. Directed by Alexandre Aja, the new installment promises to capture the thrill that made its predecessor a standout hit.
The original film remains the second most popular non-English-language feature on Netflix, boasting over 102 million views, which has set high expectations for this latest project.
In this sequel, Bérenice Bejo reprises her role as marine scientist Sophia, while Nassim Lyes returns as river police commander Adil. The duo previously united to combat killer sharks that threatened the Seine ahead of the Paris Olympics triathlon. Set three years later, Under Paris 2 reunites the characters as they embark on another perilous mission to locate Lilith, the original predator, in a Seine transformed into a shark-infested zone.
Joining Bejo and Lyes are cast members Guillaume Gouix, Philippe Bas, Manon Bresch, and Anne Marivin.
Aja, who is known for his work on Crawl and Piranha 3D, takes over directorial responsibilities from Xavier Gens, who helmed the first film. Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Aja remarked, “I love Paris, and I always wanted to make a shark movie, so it was an obvious yes when the opportunity came to take the story even deeper.”
In addition to directing, Aja co-wrote the script alongside Gregory Levasseur, Frédéric Garcia, William Laboury, Gens, and Fanny Talmone. Both Aja and Gens serve as associate producers, with longtime collaborator Vincent Roget producing under the Let Me Be banner.
As the filming unfolds, industry watchers remain keenly interested in whether Under Paris 2 can replicate the success of its predecessor.
