What We Know So Far About the Adaptation of Prime Video’s ‘Boys of Tommen’
Prime Video Expands Young Adult Adaptation Slate with The Boys of Tommen
Prime Video continues to broaden its portfolio of young adult (YA) book adaptations, unveiling its latest project, The Boys of Tommen, which has garnered significant attention on BookTok.
Currently, the series does not have a scheduled release date, but with production set to commence this year, viewers may expect it to debut in 2027.
The Boys of Tommen explores a poignant love story centered on Johnny Kavanagh, a star rugby player contemplating a professional career, and Shannon Lynch, a shy newcomer at the elite Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. Both characters grapple with deep-seated challenges: Johnny faces a potentially career-ending injury, while Shannon navigates a troubled and violent home life.
The adaptation draws from Chloe Walsh’s first two novels in the series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13. Walsh has authored a total of six books, which also include Saving 6, Redeeming 6, Taming 7, and Releasing 10.
The cast features newcomer Nancy Surridge as Shannon Lynch and Conor Sánchez, known for his role in Mix Tape, as Johnny Kavanagh. Joining them are James O’Donoghue as Joey Lynch and Sophie McGibbon portraying Aoife Molloy.
Behind the scenes, production responsibilities are shared by Drama Republic (One Day), Temple Hill (Twilight), and wiip (The Summer I Turned Pretty), in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. Poppy Cogan, recognized for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, is penning the scripts, while Brendan Canty serves as the director. Ingrid Goodwin is the series producer, ensuring the project stays on track.
This series is yet another testament to Prime Video’s commitment to bringing compelling young adult narratives to a broader audience as the streaming platform continues to capitalize on the growing popularity of YA adaptations.
