Chad Feehan Steps Away from ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Before Its Premiere
Feehan Exits ‘Dutton Ranch’ Ahead of Season Two
It has been confirmed that showrunner Feehan has departed from the new series Dutton Ranch, which stars Ed Harris and Annette Bening. While the exact timing of his exit remains unclear, sources indicate he was involved in overseeing the completion of the first season. Challenges in managing the high-profile cast reportedly contributed to his decision not to return, despite his success as a writer.
Changes in showrunners for Taylor Sheridan’s projects are prevalent within the industry. It is uncertain whether Feehan will be replaced if Dutton Ranch receives a renewal for a second season, as many shows in Sheridan’s oeuvre often forgo traditional writing showrunners, relying instead on directors to assume such responsibilities on set.
This marks Feehan’s second collaboration with Sheridan, following his role in creating Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
Dutton Ranch follows the characters Beth (played by Reilly) and Rip (Hauser) as they navigate their relationship amid brutal realities and confrontations with a rival ranch determined to protect its empire. The logline emphasizes the intensity of survival in South Texas, where blood runs deeper and forgiveness is scarce.
Returning from Yellowstone is Finn Little, joined by new cast members Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, and Natalie Alyn Lind.
Produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios, the first season of Dutton Ranch features an extensive list of executive producers, including Sheridan, John Linson, David C. Glasser, and others. Directors for the series include Voros, Greg Yaitanes, Jessica Lowrey, and Phil Abraham.
The nine-episode inaugural season is set to premiere on Paramount+ on May 15, launching with two episodes, and will also be broadcast on Paramount Network.
The news of Feehan’s exit was initially reported by Variety.
