The Director of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Thought About Adding Adrian Grenier to the Cast
Director of The Devil Wears Prada 2 Considers Nate Cameo
Director David Frankel recently revealed that he contemplated including a surprise cameo from Adrian Grenier in the highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Frankel expressed his desire to "sneak" the character Nate into the film; however, scheduling constraints ultimately prevented this from happening.
While Frankel did not disclose specific details about how he intended to incorporate Nate into the storyline, he expressed enthusiasm for Grenier’s recent work. “I’m thrilled that he did a Starbucks commercial, which was really funny and so self-effacing. I love the humility and the comedy of it!” Frankel noted.
Grenier himself shared his thoughts on the omission in March, telling Page Six that he was disappointed not to receive a call for a role in the sequel. He acknowledged the backlash his character has faced over the years, suggesting that it may have influenced his exclusion. “I think that just leaves room for a spinoff,” he added.
Moreover, Grenier emphasized that he, like many others, is a fan of the original film. Over the years, social media has seen fans criticize Nate’s relationship dynamics with Annie, particularly his reaction to her career aspirations in fashion, leaving their relationship status uncertain at the end of the first film.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to premiere on May 1 in theaters. The sequel reunites Anne Hathaway as Andy, Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling. The plot follows Andy’s return to Runway Magazine two decades after her departure, as she and Miranda face challenges in adapting to an evolving media landscape while seeking support from Emily, now leading a luxury brand.
