Jimmy Fallon Joins Nicola Coughlan for a Fun Tour of ‘SNL UK’
Jimmy Fallon took center stage as an unexpected guest on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live UK, airing on Sky One.
Host Nicola Coughlan kicked off the show with a humorous monologue in which she quipped about consuming “a staggering amount of cocaine” to prepare for her role. The playful opening set a lively tone for the episode.
“It’s an honor to be hosting,” Coughlan expressed, sharing her excitement. “It sort of feels like I manifested it somehow — it’s almost like this place is like magic.” Just then, Fallon made a surprise appearance, bursting onto the stage to exclaim, “That’s because it is!” The audience erupted in applause, fueling the already high energy.
“It’s SNL royalty Jimmy Fallon,” Coughlan exclaimed, seemingly taken aback. Fallon then guided her on a whirlwind tour of the studio set, demonstrating the unique magic of hosting SNL.
“As much fun as this is, can I just get back to hosting?” Coughlan asked lightheartedly. “Yeah, that’s why I’m here, Nicola: to teach you the biggest secret of SNL that no one wants you to know… well, don’t tell anyone, but it’s LIVE,” Fallon replied, emphasizing the freedom and spontaneity that comes with being a host.
He took Coughlan into the audience, where they interacted with viewers, even playfully ruffling one man’s hair. They humorously met someone posing as “Sir Paul McCartney,” who remarked, “Everyone in America thinks everyone in England is in The Beatles,” amplifying the fun atmosphere.
The duo then encountered Paddy Young and Ania Magliano prepping for their Weekend Update segment. Fallon encouraged Coughlan to share a playful news tidbit, leading her to declare: “Jack Shep… he does his number twos in your dressing rooms, later nerds!” before tossing their notes to the floor.
“Now you’re getting it, the power,” Fallon cheered as they continued their escapade through the set, intersecting with beefeaters and musical guest Dave Grohl, who agreed to be Coughlan’s “best friend.” Their journey led them to George Fouracres’ dressing room, where a brief interaction ended with a playful whack to the head.
As they wandered, Hammed Animashaun reminded them, “The stage is empty — are we doing the show?”
“The show?” Fallon responded. “This is more than a show, this is MAGIC!”
The trio then returned to the stage, ending the segment with Coughlan and Fallon embracing before shifting to a sketch in which Coughlan parodied her film The Faraway Tree through an explicit rap aimed at studio executives.
“It’s the faraway tree, and it’s magic as f***/Thick leaves, Nicky C and a magical trunk. It’s a big f***ing tree/Gets a new land a day. And you think it’s big now/It’s far away,” she rapped, pushing the boundaries of humor.
As the sketch progressed, Coughlan introduced a character named ‘Keith’, portrayed by Fallon as an on-set caterer. “My name is Keith, I do the on-set catering/For when the cast and crew’s energy is wavering. Anything they need, you know I will get it/Look there’s my motherf***ing name in the credits,” Fallon’s character declared.
At the end of the sketch, Coughlan increased the comedic tension by revealing her character and Keith had “started dating… and let me tell you, things got pretty freaky!”
SNL UK made its return this evening after a one-week hiatus, with Aimee Lou Wood scheduled to host next week. Wood is likely to reference last year’s American SNL sketch featuring her, which faced criticism for its indecency. Previous hosts have included notable figures such as Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, and Riz Ahmed.
