Brittney and Cherelle Griner are savoring the quiet moments in their lives following a tumultuous period marked by the WNBA star’s wrongful detainment in Russia in 2022. During the premiere of The Brittney Griner Story at the Sundance Film Festival, the couple reflected on how their home has transformed into a sanctuary since Brittney’s return to the United States.
Cherelle, 33, shared insights about their shift toward self-care. “Honestly, I think for me personally, like self-care, it really looked like being able to just turn it off,” she explained. “I had to be on for so long in a way that was not naturally my habitat because BG’s normally the one in front of cameras, not me.”
Meanwhile, Brittney, 35, discovered that stepping away from the public eye offered healing. “I needed nothing more than to actually just be in my four walls with my family and enjoy peace with no outside noise,” Cherelle added, noting that the couple found solace in simply being together at home.
The couple’s life has notably shifted with the arrival of their son, Bash, now 18 months old. “Oh my God, it is a lot,” Brittney remarked. “I see why everybody says goodbye to sleep, especially in the early days, but it’s so rewarding. I come home, he’s smiling. My day’s just good then.”

The Atlanta Dream star acknowledged the challenges of being away from her son during the season but affirmed that Bash has become the center of her life. “He’s my why,” Brittney noted, reflecting on how motherhood has reshaped her motivation. “Everything I do is for him. I want to provide for him and show him the right way to do things.”
