The Studio Team Celebrates Catherine O’Hara: An Inspiration for Everyone
Catherine O’Hara Remembered Following Untimely Passing
Catherine O’Hara, known for her portrayal of former studio chief Patty Leigh in the comedy series The Studio, passed away unexpectedly, prompting heartfelt tributes from cast and crew. O’Hara’s performance as the seasoned Hollywood veteran, who mentored Seth Rogen’s character, Matt Remick, earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series last year.
In a statement, the The Studio team expressed their profound sadness. "We are at a loss for words at the passing of our friend Catherine O’Hara. She was a hero to all of us… We’re unbelievably saddened she is gone," they remarked, extending sympathy to her husband, Bo, and her family.
As production on the second season of The Studio began earlier this month, it remains unclear if O’Hara was involved, though the first season finale indicated that her character would continue to play a significant role.
Seth Rogen reflected on their collaboration, stating, “I told O’Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I’d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen… This is just devastating.” He praised her talent and spirit, noting that working with her was a true honor.
Ike Barinholtz, who portrayed studio executive Sal Saperstein, lamented, “I never in a million years thought I would get to work with Catherine O’Hara let alone become friends with her… So incredibly grateful I got to spend the time I did with her.”
In an official statement from Apple and Lionsgate, the organization emphasized O’Hara’s legacy. "We are all heartbroken… Her artistic accomplishments will forever bring humor, light, and love for generations to come," they stated, acknowledging the brilliance she brought to her work.
O’Hara’s character, Patty Leigh, left a lasting impression throughout the series. In one memorable moment, she reflects on the pressures of the industry, saying, "The job is a meat grinder… But when it all comes together, and you make a good movie, it’s good forever."
The Studio, co-created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Frida Perez, Peter Huyck, and Alex Gregory, is produced by Lionsgate Television and Point Grey Pictures.
