Louis Tomlinson’s fans showcased their dedication, successfully pushing his new album, How Did I Get Here?, to the top of the U.K. albums chart just over a week after its release. The British singer expressed his gratitude to listeners who supported his latest effort.
On January 30, Tomlinson shared a photo on X, holding his trophy in celebration of the achievement. He described his feelings as “absolutely mind blown.”
“The amount of hard work I’ve seen from every fan to support this record is a different class,” he stated. “This is a fan base where every individual makes such a huge difference. Thank you to all of you!”
Released on January 23, How Did I Get Here? marks Tomlinson’s third solo album. Three days prior to its launch, he reached out to fans on X, asking for their assistance in promoting the album during its release week.
His followers responded enthusiastically, making How Did I Get Here? Tomlinson’s second chart-topping album in the U.K., following Faith in the Future, released in 2022. The new LP comes on the heels of a Billboard cover story in which Tomlinson discussed the impact of his time in One Direction on his career, including the pressure to achieve commercial success.
“That’s the nature of the industry — it’s a numbers-based industry, and it’s competitive by nature,” he explained to co-chief content officer Jason Lipshutz. “Coming out of a band the size of One Direction, eyes are on you, and you’re expected to succeed instantly. Those things are normal to feel, but if you let it, it’ll steer you [toward] the wrong decisions. I’ve tried to come at this record with a bit more of a bird’s eye view.”
Notably, as Tomlinson’s album claims the top spot in the U.K., his former bandmate Harry Styles currently holds the No. 1 song in the territory with his lead single, “Aperture,” from the album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. In the same Billboard piece, Tomlinson expressed confidence in Styles’ success, stating, “I always knew Harry was going to go on to do what he’s done — I’m sure he’s superseded his own expectations in the way that he’s taken over the world, but we knew he’s got everything it takes to be a great artist.”
