Shooting Incident Near Sepulveda Middle School Involves 13-Year-Old Suspect
Teen Shot Near North Hills Middle School
LOS ANGELES – A 17-year-old was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after being shot near the Sepulveda Middle School campus in North Hills. The shooting prompted authorities to enact a lockdown at the school while they investigated the incident.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the victim was injured in a fight that occurred just after 3 p.m. in the 15300 block of Plummer Street, located two blocks from the school. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh.
In a concerning development, police have identified a 13-year-old middle school student as the primary suspect in the shooting. Notably, officials confirmed that the victim is not an enrolled student at Sepulveda Middle School.
In response to the incident, the Los Angeles Unified School District placed the school on lockdown and sought assistance from the Los Angeles School Police Department. A district spokesperson stated, "Due to the proximity to our campus, we placed the school on lockdown and requested assistance from the Los Angeles School Police Department."
To ensure the safety and well-being of students, the district has deployed extra staff on-site and is providing resources for those seeking mental health support following the incident.
As of Thursday, the Los Angeles School Police Department maintained a heightened patrol presence around the campus. Investigators from both the LAPD and LASPD are continuing to conduct witness interviews.
