New Hulu Series Explores the Unique Bond Between a British Princess and Her American Bodyguard
Television Creators Secure New Series with Hulu Amid NBC Pilot Decision
In an exclusive update, Dean Georgaris and John Fox have successfully sold a new series project to Hulu as they await a decision on their NBC pilot, Key Witness.
Titled Close Protection, this romantic thriller is co-created by Georgaris and Fox, with Georgaris serving as the writer. The series centers on an American bodyguard tasked with protecting a British princess, echoing a concept once considered by Kevin Costner for a sequel to his iconic 1992 film, The Bodyguard, which was ultimately abandoned following Princess Diana’s death.
The premise contributes to a trend in the romantasy genre, particularly stories featuring bodyguards. Notably, Netflix is adapting Katherine Center’s novel The Bodyguard into a holiday romantic comedy slated for 2026, titled Guarding Stars, featuring Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki.
Georgaris and Fox are set to executive produce alongside John Davis, founder of Davis Entertainment. Universal Television serves as the studio, where both Georgaris and Davis Entertainment hold existing deals.
In addition to their work on Close Protection, Georgaris and Fox’s NBC drama pilot, Key Witness, features Emily Deschanel as a groundbreaking psychologist who shifts the investigative focus from perpetrators to victims, seeking vital clues that traditional methods often overlook. The pilot is reportedly strong in contention for a series pickup at the network.
Georgaris, recognized for his role as executive producer and showrunner on the Quantum Leap reboot, is represented by CAA and Robert Offer at Sloane Offer Weber & Dern.
