Nancy Gates of UTA Wraps Up 30-Year Journey, Exploring New Opportunities in Management
EXCLUSIVE: Nancy Gates, one of the longest-serving agents at UTA, is set to leave the agency to transition into a management role. UTA CEO David Kramer announced her departure in a memo shared with staff.
“During her tenure at UTA, her skillful agenting has shaped and built the careers of so many iconic talents,” Kramer stated in the memo. “Nancy has been more than a partner and colleague — to many of us she is a dear friend.”
Gates joined UTA in 1996, just five years after the agency’s inception, starting her career in the mailroom. She initially worked as an assistant under talent agent Martin Lesak before advancing to the role of agent in the talent department. For 18 years, she co-headed the TV Talent department and became a partner in 2015. Additionally, she played a significant role in launching UTA’s New York office, leading it for a decade after relocating there in 2011.
In recent developments, TPG’s investment has enabled Untitled to expand, including the recent acquisition of the literary management company Grandview and the recruitment of new managers. Untitled is currently in negotiations to acquire Brookside Artist Management, led by Emily Gerson Saines.
Here is Kramer’s memo:
After almost 30 years, Nancy Gates has made the decision to move on from UTA and start a new chapter in her life.
Nancy began her career in the mailroom, not long after the company was formed. She worked for the great Martin Lesak, before being promoted to agent in Talent. For 18 of her years at UTA, Nancy ran our TV Talent Department. During that time, we asked her to move her family to NYC and open our NYC office, which she also ran for 10 years.
During her tenure at UTA, her skillful agenting has shaped and built the careers of so many iconic talents. Nancy has been more than a partner and colleague – to many of us she is a dear friend.
She will be announcing her next move in the coming weeks and we’re excited to partner with her in her next journey.
David
