Karen Gillan, Josh Hutcherson, and Clive Owen Join Forces in New Film ‘Blasphemous’ at EFM
Karen Gillan, Josh Hutcherson, and Clive Owen are set to star in the upcoming exorcism thriller Blasphemous. The film, based on a script that earned recognition on the 2023 Black List, marks the feature directorial debut of Luke Piotrowski, known for The Night House.
North.Five.Six and CAA Media Finance will launch worldwide sales for the project at the European Film Market. Production is scheduled to commence in New York this August.
The storyline follows a rookie priest, played by Hutcherson, and his devoted mentor, portrayed by Owen, as they attempt to transport a possessed young woman, played by Gillan, to a secure location for an exorcism. Trouble arises when she escapes, endangering their lives and testing their faith.
The film is being produced by Scott Strauss from Badlands, Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions, as well as Karen Gillan and Jess Biddle from Red Riot Pictures. Executive producers include Michael Rothstein, Samuel Hall, and Warren Goz for North.Five.Six, with Kimberly Bialek overseeing for Seven Bucks Productions.
“Blasphemous is one of the best scripts the collective producer group has ever read,” Strauss stated. “It’s a one-of-a-kind genre ride that features sharp dialogue, compelling characters, and powerful ideas. We can’t wait to watch Clive, Karen, and Josh help Luke bring this unique vision to life.”
