Brendan Fitzgerald Transitions from CEO of Secuoya Studios to Sales Role as Latin American Division Gains Independence
Brendan Fitzgerald Exits as CEO of Secuoya Studios Amid Strategic Changes
Brendan Fitzgerald has stepped down as CEO of Secuoya Studios, coinciding with the studio’s decision to grant full operational independence to its Latin American division. Although there has been no official announcement regarding Fitzgerald’s departure from Secuoya Content Group, the parent company of the studio, it is understood that he will transition to a role focused on content sales. A spokesperson indicated that further updates about the studio and future plans would be shared in due course.
Fitzgerald, a U.S. native, joined Secuoya Studios in January 2024. His role involved the development and structuring of new projects and partnerships. Prior to this position, he served as Senior Vice President of English Language Co-Productions at Sony Pictures Television and was the founder of independent production company Pomodoro Stories. The news of his exit was first reported by C21Media.
During his tenure, Fitzgerald aimed to broaden Secuoya Studios’ portfolio beyond Spanish-language content, helping to internationalize the brand. He was active in international co-production markets, forming partnerships with companies such as Act4 in Iceland, the UK’s BlackBox Multimedia, and U.S. documentary filmmaker Chris Moukarbel’s Permanent Wave Productions.
As Secuoya Studios decentralizes operations, its Latin American arm will gain complete autonomy over development, production, and business affairs. This move will allow regional executives to make independent decisions regarding projects, talent, and content, while still coordinating with the wider Secuoya group on other operational matters.
The Latin American division is expected to focus on markets including Mexico, Colombia, and the Hispanic U.S. Plans are underway to establish creative pods led by executive producers and local creatives.
Daniel Hernández Bocanegra will oversee the Latin American operation, with former Paramount executive Pierluigi Gazzolo serving as an advisor through his Farniente Media imprint. Gazzolo, already a member of the Secuoya Studios advisory board, will provide analysis, decision-making support, and help strengthen commercial connections in the region.
Raúl Berdonés, Executive Chairman of Secuoya Content Group, stated, “This model reflects a clear strategic vision: to be closer to stories, talent and local audiences. We are committed to an operation in Latin America with full operational independence, where decision-making, development and production take place within the territory itself—rooted in a local perspective with a global ambition.”
Bocanegra emphasized the importance of this new model, saying, “Latin America is now one of the studio’s main growth engines and one of the most dynamic regions in the audiovisual industry. This model allows us to consolidate a truly local way of working, with teams that operate independently and with end-to-end capabilities on the ground—strengthening our competitiveness and our ability to generate relevant, exportable content aligned with international demand.”
