CNN and Craig Ferguson Team Up for USA250 with the ‘American On Purpose’ Series
Craig Ferguson to Host New Series Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary
In a nod to literary greats like Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde, comedian Craig Ferguson is embarking on a nationwide tour for CNN as part of the upcoming celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
Ferguson, a distinguished Emmy and Peabody Award winner, will lead the new series titled Craig Ferguson: American On Purpose. The show is set to premiere later this year as part of CNN Originals’ 2026 programming lineup. Produced by The Intellectual Property Corporation, the series aims to explore the diverse topics and individuals that shape contemporary American life.
Described as a cross-country journey, American On Purpose delves into the nation’s tumultuous 250-year history, examining the complexities of identity in modern America. The series will feature Ferguson’s reflections on what it means to be American today, stemming from his own journey as a proud citizen since 2008. Viewers can expect a blend of history and humor as Ferguson traverses the country—from thrilling monster truck rallies to the iconic Ellis Island.
“Any chance I get to remind my fellow Americans that we are still the best idea for a country anyone has ever had I’m going to take it. My eagle is still bald and my banner is still spangled with stars,” said Ferguson, expressing his enthusiasm for the project.
Amy Entelis, CNN’s executive vice president of talent and creative development, highlighted Ferguson’s unique ability to address serious topics with joy and humanity. “At a moment of reflection for the country, the series invites viewers to look inward through a voice that is insightful, generous, and profound,” she noted.
Ferguson will serve as the executive producer alongside Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, and Erin Gamble for IPC, while Morgan Fallon will act as showrunner, joined by Entelis and other key figures from CNN.
As anticipation builds for the series, it promises to not only celebrate a significant national milestone but also to provoke thoughtful discourse on identity and culture in the United States.
