Michael Watson’s Journey: From Infamous Fight with Chris Eubank to Inspiring Recovery
Filming Concludes for ‘The Force – The Michael Watson Story’
Filming has officially concluded on The Force – The Michael Watson Story, directed by Sean Cronin. The biopic highlights the life of British boxing legend Michael Watson, featuring Victor Hugo as Watson and Michael Gukas portraying Chris Eubank.
Watson and Eubank are known for their notorious WBO super middleweight fight in 1991, a rematch following Eubank’s earlier victory by majority decision. Their dramatic showdown took place at the White Hart Lane soccer stadium, where the match was halted in the twelfth round when Watson collapsed, resulting in a severe brain injury that left him in a coma for 40 days.

Since his injury, Watson has made an inspiring recovery, learning to walk again and earning recognition as one of the UK’s most motivational sports figures. The screenplay, penned by Matthew Bazell, traces Watson’s remarkable journey and the subsequent legal battle that led to significant changes in boxing safety regulations—reforms that continue to impact the sport today.
The Force is produced by Magnificent Films in collaboration with Matchroom and features a cast of notable figures from British and international boxing. This includes Mo George as Nigel Benn, Khali Best from Top Boy as Gerald McClellan, and Nick Moran from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as Barry Hearn, along with portrayals of Frank Bruno, Don King, and Muhammad Ali.
The production recreated the iconic White Hart Lane bout at Longcross Studios in the UK on September 21, 2025, exactly 34 years after the original fight, where Watson made a special guest appearance during filming.
