Melania Coming Soon to Prime Video: Streaming Release Date Announced
"Melania" Documentary to Stream on Prime Video Following Successful Theatrical Release
The much-anticipated documentary "Melania," produced by Amazon MGM Studios, is set to begin streaming on Prime Video on March 9, following its theatrical release on January 30.
Directed by Brett Ratner, the film offers exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the former First Lady during the pivotal weeks leading up to the 2025 presidential election. It opened to a remarkable $7 million, marking the highest debut for a non-fiction feature in the past decade. This opening surpassed Angel Studios’ 2023 release "After Death," which earned $5 million, and also exceeded the documentary’s $5 million forecast, despite receiving poor reviews. The film has grossed over $16.6 million during its theatrical run.
Financially, the $75 million film incurred a licensing cost of $40 million, which included docuseries rights for Amazon MGM Studios, along with an additional $35 million for marketing. The strategy is to leverage the streaming release of "Melania" to boost advertising sales and new signups.
The documentary chronicles the 20 days leading up to the 2025 presidential inauguration, highlighting the former First Lady as she orchestrates inauguration plans and navigates the complexities of the White House transition while relocating her family to Washington, D.C. It features exclusive footage from critical meetings, private conversations, and previously unseen locations.
In addition to Ratner’s direction, "Melania" was co-produced by Fernando Sulichin, Marc Beckman, and Melania Trump. The film is produced in association with Muse Films, New Element Media, and Ratpac Entertainment.
