Matt Damon Faces Challenges on His Journey Home in the New ‘The Odyssey’ Trailer
The first trailer for Christopher Nolan’s cinematic adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey has been released, coinciding with the news that it has already sold 70 million Imax tickets through AMC and Regal cinemas.
The trailer features Matt Damon as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he navigates the perils of returning home after the Trojan War. While the trailer offers limited glimpses of mythical creatures, the narrative includes encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the enchanting Sirens, the nymph Calypso, and the witch goddess Circe, all set against the backdrop of treacherous oceans and shipwrecks, including scenes of Odysseus and his men inside the Trojan Horse.
In a poignant moment, the trailer introduces Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, and Anne Hathaway as his wife, Penelope. “Promise me you will come back,” Penelope implores, to which Odysseus replies, “What if I can’t?”
Notable cast members, including Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo, are confirmed to be part of the film but do not appear in this initial trailer.
This epic tale from the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind Oppenheimer was shot utilizing innovative Imax technology and is scheduled for theatrical release on July 17, 2026.
