As Wedding Crashers celebrates its 20th anniversary, Jane Seymour recalls a particularly unforgettable moment from the set still brings her joy.
In an exclusive interview, Seymour spoke with PEOPLE about the film’s re-release in select theaters on December 11. Having played the comedic role of Kathleen “Kitty Cat” Cleary, she reflected on a day of filming that remains a highlight in her memory.
“The one that I will never forget was the dining table scene,” she said. This scene involves the wedding-crashing protagonists, played by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, as they join the Cleary family for a meal, which includes a star-studded cast featuring Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Bradley Cooper, and Christopher Walken.

“Dining room scenes typically require several days to film, and humor can fade after numerous takes,” Seymour explained. However, this scenario changed thanks to Vaughn’s well-known knack for improvisation.
“We had this little old lady, and she had no idea what Vince was telling her to say,” Seymour laughs, referring to Ellen Albertini Dow, who portrayed the family matriarch. Dow, known for her role as Adam Sandler’s rapping grandmother in The Wedding Singer, was 91 at the time. “It had nothing to do with the script, so it was all about feeding her outrageous lines,” Seymour recounted.

“We were all sitting at the table, feeling tired, and then we had to suppress our laughter as she had no clue what she was saying! While most of Vince’s contributions didn’t make the final cut, some certainly added to that scene,” Seymour noted, praising Dow for her willingness to embrace the unexpected.
Reflecting on the film’s remarkable ensemble, Seymour expressed appreciation for the prominent careers of her co-stars. With Wilson and Vaughn at the peak of their success, and McAdams fresh off prominent roles in Mean Girls and The Notebook, the chemistry among the cast became palpable. Cooper and Fisher would soon see their careers take off after their performances in Wedding Crashers, while Seymour and Walken were broadening their comedic horizons.
Seymour described the diverse comedic styles that contributed to the film’s success, stating, “It had an amazing group of actors who each approached comedy in unique ways, making sure everyone held their own.” She emphasized her belief that it stands as one of the best comedies ever made, calling it iconic.

Seymour noted that Vaughn’s improvisational style distinctly shaped the film’s dialogue. “There was a script, and then there was Vince’s version,” she explained, indicating how daily dynamics varied based on their creative input.
“They constantly rewrote scenes,” she continued. “Though Owen respected the script while contributing his own flair, Vince approached it with a freewheeling style.”
The actress expressed admiration for how their contrasting comedic personalities complemented each other: “Owen’s delivery is laid-back, while Vince brings a high-energy, unpredictable approach.”

Seymour also praised her co-stars for their performances. “Rachel McAdams stood out as the straight person, while Isla and I enjoyed the comedic moments,” she remarked. “Bradley Cooper was phenomenal; I couldn’t help but think he was going to steal the show.”
She expressed newfound appreciation for Christopher Walken, her on-screen husband, as well: “While I had seen his work, it was my son who introduced me to his genius. I was amazed by his unique delivery.”
On December 11, Fathom Entertainment will re-release Wedding Crashers: 20th Anniversary in select theaters nationwide, showcasing an additional ten minutes of deleted scenes from the film’s 2006 home entertainment release.
