Lewis Pullman Discusses “Bizarre” Experience Filming Spaceballs 2
Lewis Pullman attended the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, The Testament of Ann Lee, on December 14, where he opened up about his upcoming project, Spaceballs 2. This long-awaited sequel to the beloved Mel Brooks comedy promises a fresh, satirical take on the expanding Star Wars franchise. The film is set to premiere in 2027.
While engaging with the press at the premiere, the 32-year-old actor shared his reflections on collaborating with his father, Bill Pullman, in Spaceballs 2. “It was a dream come true,” he said. “We just wrapped, and every day was such a trip. It was kind of like a bizarre simulation. I just couldn’t believe my luck.”
Lewis expressed his excitement about the opportunity, noting that he and his father had long hoped to work together. “We’ve been wanting to do that forever, and we never knew whether we could get the chance or not. And so doing it on a movie like Spaceballs 2 was just like, ‘What simulation… what world are we in right now?’”
The sequel was officially announced by Amazon MGM Studios in June, confirming the return of both Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis in their iconic roles from the original 1987 film. Co-written by Brooks and Josh Gad, the upcoming Spaceballs 2 is expected to offer contemporary commentary on Hollywood’s franchise culture.
In the announcement video, Brooks humorously critiqued the multitude of Star Wars adaptations since the original trilogy, stating, “Thirty-eight years ago, there was only one Star Wars trilogy. But since then, there have been countless TV spinoffs, a movie spinoff of the TV spinoff, and more.” He continued to poke fun at the film industry’s obsession with updating classic stories.
As fans eagerly await its release, Spaceballs 2 promises to bring a nostalgic yet fresh perspective to a rapidly changing cinematic landscape.
