King Taco’s First Location Could Become a Historic Landmark
Cypress Park Location of King Taco Moves Closer to Historic Designation
A proposal to designate the original King Taco location in Cypress Park as a historic landmark has gained momentum with a unanimous vote from the Los Angeles City Council’s Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee. This landmark designation honors the restaurant, which opened its doors in 1974 and has since expanded to over a dozen locations throughout the Southland.
Local residents have expressed strong support for the initiative, noting that the restaurant holds significant cultural value in the community. “This place has been here for so long, so they do deserve it,” remarked a diner at the original location on Tuesday.
The proposal is now set to move to the full Los Angeles City Council for final approval. If granted, this designation would celebrate King Taco’s enduring presence and influence in the area.
