King Princess is set to make her theatrical debut in the upcoming stage adaptation of Girl, Interrupted at The Public Theater in New York City.
According to an exclusive report from Billboard, the singer-songwriter will portray Lisa, a fellow patient in the production.
Originally a 1999 film featuring Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, Girl, Interrupted is based on Susanna Kaysen’s bestselling 1993 memoir. It chronicles Kaysen’s 18-month experience in a psychiatric hospital as she interacts with both patients and staff. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Martyna Majok has penned the book for the stage adaptation, which will include original music from two-time Grammy Award winner Aimee Mann. Jo Bonney directs, with choreography by Sonya Tayeh.
The complete cast for Girl, Interrupted includes Leela Bassuk (Understudy), Ta’Rea Campbell (Valerie), Gabi Campo (Tori), Juliana Canfield (Susanna), Eileen Doan (Understudy), Mano Felciano (Man/Musician), Gunnar Manchester (Understudy), Mia Pak (Grace), Katherine Reis (Daisy), Anna Roman (Understudy), Sally Shaw (Polly), Emily Skinner (Dr. Wick), Rachel Stern (Understudy), and Lauren Jeanne Thomas (Judy/Musician).
While this marks King Princess’s first appearance on stage, she is no stranger to acting. She previously starred as a series regular in the second season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers and appeared with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in the upcoming Oscar-nominated film Song Sung Blue. King Princess will also star alongside Julia Fox, Este Haim, and Maya Hawke in the romantic comedy One Night Only, written and directed by Will Gluck.
Performances for Girl, Interrupted are set to commence in The Public’s Martinson Hall on Wednesday, May 13, with the official opening scheduled for Thursday, June 4. The show will run through Sunday, June 21. Tickets are currently available for purchase. The National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City (NAMI-NYC) will collaborate with The Public Theater to support this production, including a post-show talkback during June.
