### Kate Bush Pens Heartfelt Tribute to Matthew Upham
English singer-songwriter Kate Bush is mourning the loss of her close friend, Matthew Upham, who tragically passed away at age 63 on Christmas Day. Upham was one of two swimmers who went missing during an annual Christmas Day swim at Budleigh Salterton beach in Devon, England.
In a statement released on her official website on December 28, Bush expressed her heartbreak, stating, “Matthew was one of my very dearest friends… He was extraordinarily kind, thoughtful and lived life to the full.”
The incident occurred when a group of swimmers experienced difficulties in the water. Authorities launched a search operation; however, it was later called off for the day. Upham, described as a strong swimmer with a passion for kayaking, was noted by Bush for his adventurous spirit and respect for the sea. “It’s so tragic that he lost his life this way,” she said.
Continuing, she reflected on Upham’s impact on others: “He was one of those people who touched everyone he met… His family are heartbroken and along with many of his friends, so am I.” She concluded her tribute with a poignant message: “The world has lost someone incredibly special. Thank you, Matthew, for being one of the best friends anyone could have.”
