Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Voice and Body Image: “I Completely Understand”
Selena Gomez Addresses Questions About Her Voice and Skin During Instagram Livestream
In a recent Instagram livestream, pop star Selena Gomez candidly responded to comments regarding her speaking voice and upper lip. The clip, which has gained traction on social media, shows Gomez addressing a follower’s inquiry about her voice.
"I’ve gotten this question a few times, the voice thing," Gomez remarked before briefly pausing. "Sometimes things happen… I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all."
Throughout the video, Gomez expressed appreciation for her fans’ honesty, stating, "I’m glad y’all are being real with me on the live, I appreciate it, for real.”
Gomez also tackled other personal questions, including one regarding her upper lip. In a playful tone, she recounted a viewer’s question about how she manages facial hair. "Someone made me laugh, because they asked me, ‘How do you, like, shave your mustache?’” she said.
She elaborated, "I totally get it. I actually have melasma, you guys … It’s from the sun. You all have to obviously wear sunscreen and be careful … but it’s actually not [a mustache]. It’s my melasma. I take care of and treat it, but yeah, it’s there. That’s me.”
Melasma is a common skin condition characterized by discoloration on the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead, often exacerbated by sun exposure and hormonal changes, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Gomez, who frequently opens up to her followers about her health experiences, previously discussed her battles with lupus and mental health issues. The singer has also shared her struggles with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), a condition that leads to digestive complications due to an increase in bacteria in the small intestine.
This recent exchange with fans comes at a significant time for Gomez, who has experienced a noteworthy year. In September, she married producer Benny Blanco and celebrated the success of her joint album with him, I Said I Love You First, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, she received her fourth consecutive Golden Globe nomination for her role in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.
“Thank you to the @goldenglobes for our recognition after 5 seasons!” Gomez expressed. “I’m deeply grateful and forever honored.”
