Josephine Park Takes the Helm of TV2’s New Danish Opioid Crime Drama ‘Side Effects’ from Miso Film
Josephine Parker to Star in Danish Crime Drama ‘Side Effects’
Josephine Parker, known for her roles in The Oxe and Baby Fever, is set to star in the upcoming Danish crime drama series Side Effects (Fristelsen). The show will focus on an investigation into deadly synthetic drugs.
Parker will portray Nora Søby, the chief investigator in Denmark’s premier crime unit. Her character becomes embroiled in a harrowing case following the murder of a dockland security guard and the disappearance of a significant shipment of pills containing a dangerous opioid. As the drugs begin to circulate on the streets, Søby and her team must work against the clock to tackle the ensuing chaos and the severe side effects faced by those affected.
The series is being produced by Miso Film and has received backing from the Danish Film Institute’s Public Service Pool. Jonas Allen and Peter Bose from Miso are attached as producers, with Lasse Kyed Rasmussen, known for Those Who Kill, serving as the writer. Direction will be handled by Jonas Alexander Arnby, whose previous work includes The Uniform. Fremantle, Miso’s parent company, will manage international sales, with filming slated to begin this spring.
“Side Effects is a crime series rooted in a reality we can no longer ignore,” stated Sara Askelöf, senior executive producer at TV2. “It addresses drug-related crime and addiction as an urgent societal issue. The series combines a realistic investigation with strong personal stakes and aims to engage viewers through both suspense and relevance. I look forward to bringing this timely and ambitious series to our audience.”
Allen, CEO and producer at Miso, emphasized the show’s intensity: “Side Effects is a high-end, Nordic Noir crime-thriller depicting the national special crime unit’s systematic and tireless investigation of organized drug-related crime. The series uncovers the massive societal impact of drugs on multiple levels, making it both realistic and highly relevant.”
The announcement of Side Effects aligns with the Göteborg Film Festival’s TV Drama Vision event, which began yesterday and will conclude today. The event gathers key television producers and buyers from across the Nordic region.
