Dodgers Continue to Struggle at the Plate in Third Consecutive Loss to Cardinals
ST. LOUIS — The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offensive struggles continued on Friday, resulting in a disappointing 7-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Dodgers managed only one run in the first five innings, courtesy of Max Muncy’s RBI double in the second. In the sixth inning, despite loading the bases, they could only add one more run through a sacrifice fly by Kyle Tucker. Over the course of the game, the team failed to capitalize, going 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position, and scoring fewer runs than the Cardinals did in the first inning alone.
Dodgers pitcher Emmet Sheehan’s outing unraveled during a pivotal moment in the first inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, Sheehan faced Cardinals hitter Nolan Gorman with a 2-0 count. A back-pick attempt by catcher Will Smith went awry, allowing runners to advance. During the at-bat, Sheehan was called for a balk after failing to maintain his previous throwing position, allowing the first run of the game to score. Gorman capitalized on a high fastball from Sheehan, hitting a two-run homer into the right-field stands.
Despite some recovery, Sheehan concluded the day having given up a season-high eight hits before exiting in the fifth inning. The Cardinals continued to extend their lead, scoring three more runs in the seventh inning against reliever Edgardo Henriquez.
This loss marks another challenge for the Dodgers as they seek to regain their offensive momentum moving forward.
