Cannes Market Attracts a Record Number of Attendees Amid Challenging Global Events
The Cannes Marché du Film has announced record attendance ahead of its opening on May 13, reflecting a complex geopolitical backdrop. Expecting 40,000 industry professionals overall, the festival has registered 16,000 participants from 140 countries, marking a slight increase from 2025.
The top three countries in attendance will be the U.S., France, and the UK, with Europe remaining the most represented region. However, Asia, particularly Japan—this year’s Country of Honour—has made significant strides, boasting nearly a 50% increase in attendance, making it the fifth most represented country at the film market.
The market also noted growing participation from Sub-Saharan Africa, with Benin showcasing for the first time this year. Latin America is notably active as well, driven by initiatives in collaboration with Ventana Sur.

“The Marché du Film is first and foremost a place of action, structured around three essential pillars: the global marketplace for film sales, a platform where projects are created and financed, and a hub for sharing knowledge and expertise where the industry collectively shapes its future,” stated Executive Director Guillaume Esmiol.
According to the market’s breakdown, registered attendees include 1,700 buyers and 600 exhibiting companies. The event will feature 1,500 festival and market screenings, along with 250 industry events and 100 conference sessions, running from May 13 to 20.
