Throughout their six-year relationship, Cameron Rose Newell has consistently shown support for her boyfriend, Brock Bowers, in his athletic journey. However, the spotlight unexpectedly turned to her father on draft day.
In a recent interview with WAGTalk, a platform dedicated to partners of professional athletes, Newell, 22, reflected on the significant occasion when Bowers was officially selected by the Las Vegas Raiders. The tight end was chosen as the 13th overall pick in the 2024 draft.
WAGTalk’s Maddy Sells prompted Newell about the draft night experience, pointing out that her father was already a Raiders fan before Bowers joined the team following a successful collegiate career with the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

The Napa Valley native recounted that on the day of the draft, her father wore a vintage Raiders championship jacket reflecting the team’s history while based in Oakland, California, prior to moving to Los Angeles in 1982 and then to Las Vegas in 2020.
Newell mentioned she had advised her father against wearing the jacket, uncertain about Bowers’ potential selection. Despite her concerns, her father insisted on bringing it, citing that it might be his only chance to attend a draft party.
Reflecting on the draft preparations, Newell noted, “We were like, yeah, no way the Raiders are gonna draft him. They hadn’t even called him or talked to him literally throughout the entire draft process.” Moments later, the atmosphere changed when Bowers received the anticipated call and returned to the room wearing a Raiders hat.
As joy erupted in the room, Newell’s father expressed his emotions vividly. “He has tears running down his face. He’s holding up the jacket in the back,” she described. “It was just crazy.”
Earlier in the interview, Newell shared insights about how her relationship with Bowers began the summer before their senior year of high school, despite attending separate schools in Napa.
Describing their first interactions, Newell said, “He texted me and said I was pretty or something, and then, yeah, the rest is history.” She added, “I actually made the first move because he was too nervous.” Despite their different college paths—Bowers at Georgia and Newell at the University of Tennessee—their relationship has endured.
