BTS’ Jin Shares His Experience as the Oldest Member and Talks About Staying Active
BTS’s Jin Reflects on Career Milestones and Solo Experience
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Jin, the oldest member of the popular K-pop group BTS, opened up about his journey as an artist, his passion for music, and his perspective on aging in the entertainment industry.
During the conversation with senior writer Brian Hiatt, Jin, 33, discussed his new rock music, his admiration for Coldplay, and the anticipation surrounding BTS’s upcoming album, ARIRANG, along with their world tour. Addressing the challenges of maintaining his performance level, Jin candidly acknowledged, "I guess it’s always physically taxing… While it’s true that the same moves can feel a bit more difficult now, that’s just my burden to bear."
The singer also shared insights into his dedicated work ethic. “To be honest, I’m aware that I don’t move quite as well as the other members,” he admitted. Rather than being discouraged, he views this as motivation: “So I’ve always come early to practice, or stayed late to catch up.”
Humorously, Jin noted one area where he feels he excels. "I do think I’m more good-looking than the other members," he joked, while acknowledging the overall attractiveness of the group. “I should have at least one thing I’m best at in the group.”
Jin also addressed a personal challenge regarding the band’s new album, revealing that he did not contribute to its songwriting due to his solo tour last summer, which accompanied his Billboard 200 No. 3 album, Echo. He explained, “I didn’t write any of the songs because I was still on my solo tour… When I arrived at the studio, there were a 100-something songs already made.” Reflecting on this, he suggested, “I do think it would have been better… But the other members did a beautiful job.”
Ultimately, Jin expressed his excitement about reconnecting with BTS and embarking on the tour together. “My biggest dream has been to go on tour with BTS,” he said when asked about his aspirations for the next five years. “And meet as many fans as I can, from all over the world.”
