Prince Harry Shares His Feelings of Disconnection During Fatherhood While Meghan Was Expecting
Prince Harry Reflects on Fatherhood Journey
Prince Harry recently opened up about the emotional challenges he faced during his early days of fatherhood. Speaking at a Movember event in Melbourne on April 15, he described feeling a disconnect as his wife, Meghan Markle, was the one bringing their son, Archie, into the world. “Certainly I felt a disconnection because my wife was the one creating life, and I was there to witness it,” Harry, 41, shared.
Archie was born in May 2019, and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have since welcomed a second child, Lilibet, born in June 2021 in Santa Barbara, California. During his trip to Australia, Harry was candid about his journey and emphasized the importance of mental health in parenting. He explained, “Certainly, from a therapy standpoint, you want to be the best version of yourself for your kids,” acknowledging that he had personal issues from the past that needed addressing.
Harry revealed that his therapist’s advice about being aware of his feelings right after a baby is born was invaluable. “I think the biggest tip that I was given from my therapist in the U.K. was just be aware of how you feel once the baby is born,” he noted.
Discussing his legacy, Harry remarked that “our kids are our upgrade” and stressed his commitment to raising his children differently than he was brought up in the royal family. He stated, “That’s not how I was taught, but that was my take on it… to know that with the world the way that it goes, the kids that we bring up in today’s world need to be an upgrade.”
Although Harry and Meghan left their children at home for this trip, they did return with personalized Bulldogs jerseys for them. Prior to his Australia visit, Meghan shared a heartwarming video of Archie and Lilibet during Easter festivities, as they enjoyed the celebration in their garden.
Harry’s reflections underscore a modern approach to parenting, emphasizing emotional intelligence and personal growth as central to nurturing a healthy family environment.
