In a reveal of profound maternal insight, A$AP Rocky shared that his mother always believed he and Rihanna were destined to be more than just friends. The couple, now partners and parents to three children, have a history that dates back to their early friendship.
In a recently released clip from an upcoming episode of New York Times‘ Popcast, Rocky reflected on his mother’s persistent attempts to encourage a romance between him and the Fenty mogul long before they became a couple. “My mother used to say s–t, like, ‘I know you like this girl that you with right now’ — I ain’t gonna say no names — ‘but I want you with RiRi,’” he recounted.
Despite his mother’s claims, Rocky expressed skepticism. “It’s like, ‘Ma, why you keep saying that? That girl don’t even want me like that,’” he recalled, adding, “But we cool, Mom. Like, that’s just my friend, chill.”
However, his mother remained steadfast, asserting, “I’m telling you, she’s real,” a statement Rocky now acknowledges as prescient. “Mothers know best,” he emphasized during the interview.
Rocky also discussed how Rihanna brought clarity to his life, helping him discern his true friendships. “Being with my girl took a blindfold off,” he said. “She’ll tell you, like, ‘That’s not your friend. That, that’s your friend.’”
Having been in a relationship for approximately five to six years, the couple grew closer during the coronavirus pandemic. Together, they are parents to two sons, 3-year-old RZA and 2-year-old Riot Rose, as well as a daughter named Rocki, born in September.
In a playful remark on Instagram, Rihanna hinted at the possibility of expanding their family further. Commenting on a video about her desire to become pregnant by 2026, she wrote, “So I’m not crazy then? Bet!”
As Rocky prepares to release his anticipated album, Don’t Be Dumb, on January 16, fans can look forward to hearing tracks such as “Helicopter” and “Punk Rocky” from the upcoming project.
