The animated sequel, which premiered on Nov. 26, has recently crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, making it the fastest PG-rated film in history to reach this figure, according to the Walt Disney Company.
Following in the footsteps of 2016’s Zootopia, this sequel has already broken records, achieving the fourth-highest global opening of all time and setting records for the biggest opening weekend for an animated film and for any movie released in 2025. It surpassed a previous record held by another Disney animated sequel, Moana 2, and as of Dec. 12, Zootopia 2 has grossed $230 million in the U.S.

Since the release of Frozen in 2013, Disney has produced five films that have grossed over $1 billion, including Frozen 2, Moana 2, the original Zootopia, and its sequel.
Zootopia 2 sees the return of voice actors Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman as officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, who team up to tackle “the most perilous and intricate case of their careers.” The cast also includes newcomers such as Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Andy Samberg, Quinta Brunson, and Danny Trejo.
The film features the return of Shakira, who voiced the character Gazelle in the first film, and Ed Sheeran, who collaborated with Shakira on the original song “Zoo,” performed in the movie.
“Everyone at Disney Animation put their heart, soul, and passion into this film to tell a story full of joy, imagination, and incredible thoughtfulness,” noted Jared Bush, the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios. “This milestone means the world to us because more than anything, it signifies audiences coming together in theaters for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, from all walks of life around the world — and that is a Zootopia dream come true.”
