Country star Cody Johnson delivered a memorable slow jam performance at this year’s Stagecoach festival.
During his headlining set on Friday, April 24, the 38-year-old artist invited legendary R&B group Boyz II Men to the stage to perform their 1994 hit “On Bended Knee.”
Johnson began with a heartfelt rendition of the beloved love song before being joined by Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris, Wanyá Morris, and Shawn Stockman. Their performance resonated with festival-goers in Indio, California, who swayed along with nostalgia.
“On Bended Knee,” featured on the group’s sophomore album, II, dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks in 1994.
This appearance adds to Boyz II Men’s recent efforts to bridge musical genres. In March, the Philadelphia-based group unexpectedly joined Brett Young for a performance at the Listening Room’s 20th anniversary celebration at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, where they collaborated on Young’s song “In Case You Didn’t Know.”
Johnson’s performance at Stagecoach coincides with the announcement of his new album, Banks of the Trinity, slated for release on June 26 through COJO Music/Warner Records Nashville.
This upcoming project follows Johnson’s 2023 album, Leather, along with its deluxe edition, which included popular tracks such as “Dirt Cheap” and “The Fall.” The album was honored as Album of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards.
Additionally, rising artist Ella Langley delighted the audience by inviting comedian Theo Von to perform a duet of her collaboration with Riley Green, “You Look Like You Love Me.”
Stagecoach 2026 is set to continue with Lainey Wilson headlining on Saturday, April 25, followed by a closing performance from Post Malone on Sunday.
