Young Sherlock Coming Back for Season 2 on Prime Video, with Guy Ritchie Directing the First Episode
Season 2 of Young Sherlock is officially on the way, as Prime Video confirms the renewal for another season. Last month, the show’s continuation seemed likely, and today’s announcement solidifies that anticipation. Guy Ritchie is set to direct the first episode of the upcoming season.
The series, which presents a fresh take on the iconic Sherlock Holmes origin story, has proven to be a major success for Prime Video. It has topped charts in 95 countries and has been viewed by 45 million people, making it one of the platform’s top 10 Originals to date.
Season 1 depicted how Holmes, portrayed by Hero Fiennes Tiffin, first encountered James Moriarty, played by Dónal Finn. Their relationship began not as enemies but as friends combining their detective skills to unravel a complex global mystery over the course of eight episodes.
The first season also featured performances from Zine Tseng (3 Body Problem), Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale), Natascha McElhone (Halo), Max Irons (Condor), and Academy Award-winner Colin Firth (The King’s Speech). While there is no casting news for Season 2 at this point, updates will be forthcoming.
Ritchie will also take on an executive role in the new season. The series was created by showrunner Matthew Parkhill and produced by the UK-based label Motive Pictures, which is backed by Fifth Season, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios.
“Young Sherlock has that rare magic—millions of fans around the world aren’t just watching a detective story; they’re falling in love with the origin of an icon,” stated Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios.
Simon Maxwell, founder of Motive Pictures, previously expressed hopes that Young Sherlock would evolve into multiple seasons. “We know that in terms of the origin and coming-of-age story, we’ve just told the first stage. It is absolutely designed to be a multi-season show,” he stated.
