Marvel Faces Job Reductions as Disney Implements Companywide Budget Cuts
Marvel has been significantly affected by the recent layoffs announced by Disney. Sources indicate that both Marvel Entertainment in New York and Marvel Studios in Burbank have experienced workforce reductions, with approximately 8% of employees let go.
The layoffs span multiple departments, including film and television production, comics, franchise operations, finance, legal, and visual development.
Notably, cuts in the visual development department are expected to be substantial. Marvel Studios will retain a smaller team that will oversee the hiring of outside contractors for specific projects moving forward.
Josh D’Amaro, CEO of Disney, confirmed that up to 1,000 employees across the company will be laid off, with the marketing and brand organization facing the largest share of these cuts.
