Writers from ‘Send Help’ Were Set for a Cameo in Jeff Probst’s ‘Survivor 50’ But Scheduling Conflicts Got in the Way
SPOILERS: This post contains details about Send Help
In a notable absence from the film Send Help, host Jeff Probst missed his chance to make a cameo due to prior commitments with Tribal Council.
Recently, Probst revealed that director Sam Raimi had offered him a small role as himself, which would have involved a playful exchange in the film. Screenwriters Damian Shannon and Mark Swift later confirmed the missed opportunity on social media, explaining the details of Probst’s intended appearance.
“FACT CHECK: True!” they wrote on X. “We wrote a cameo for him at the very end. Playing himself. If you’ve seen it, you know where. He says ‘Nice shot, Linda!’ and we see they’re on the same celebrity golf team. We couldn’t work out the schedule.”
Probst has since expressed disappointment over the scheduling conflicts that prevented his participation, stating that he was very enthusiastic about collaborating with Raimi.
“Sam Raimi offered me a small part in that, to play myself at the end, and we could not work it out schedule-wise, because we were shooting Survivor 50,” he mentioned during a recent red carpet event. “Oh, I know. That’s Sam Raimi! I was like, ‘Wait a minute! He wants me to be in his movie?’ So, we did talk. We did some cross-promotion together—and I got to meet him over Zoom—and I was very enthusiastic to be a part of it.”
Probst admitted, “I haven’t seen it yet. I can’t lie; I haven’t seen it yet. All I’ve heard is, [it’s] fantastic, but he and I talked about the story, and I’d seen the script, so I knew the dynamic.”
Send Help, which is currently in theaters, stars Linda (Rachel McAdams) and her overbearing boss Bradley (Dylan O’Brien) as they navigate survival after a plane crash leaves them stranded on a deserted island, leading to intense confrontations fueled by past grievances. Notably, McAdams recorded a Survivor audition tape as her character, integrating her survival arc into the storyline.
As for Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans, it is airing Wednesdays at 8 PM ET on CBS and is available for streaming through the Paramount+ Premium plan. The live finale is slated for May 20.
