Hulu Presents a Docuseries on the Remarkable Prison Escape of Sarah Pender, a Convicted Double Murderer
EXCLUSIVE: Sarah Pender’s Escape and the Hunt for America’s Most Wanted Woman
Sarah Pender, convicted in 2000 for the murders of her two roommates, sparked a nationwide manhunt eight years later when she escaped from Rockville Correctional Facility. Her story will be explored in a three-part docuseries titled Girl on the Run: The Hunt for America’s Most Wanted Woman, premiering on February 19 on Hulu.
Pender received a sentence of over 100 years for her involvement in the killings of Andrew Cataldi and Tricia Nordman, which were orchestrated by her then-boyfriend, who pleaded guilty. While housed in a maximum-security prison in Indiana, she escaped with the help of a prison guard and a former cellmate, eluding authorities for several months.
During her time on the run, Pender relied on a network of former convicts and a new boyfriend. However, a re-airing of America’s Most Wanted led a neighbor to contact the police, ultimately revealing her whereabouts.
The upcoming docuseries includes exclusive interviews with Pender, who continues to assert her innocence. Viewers will also hear from the law enforcement officer who led her capture, Pender’s parents, former inmates from Indiana Women’s Prison, and her ex-boyfriend Rick, who remains incarcerated for the double murders.
Produced by Plum Pictures in collaboration with ABC News Studios, the project is directed by Sebastian Smith, with executive producers Stuart Cabb and Tom Pearson from Plum Pictures, alongside ABC News Studios’ senior executive producer David Sloan and executive producer Beth Hoppe.
