EXCLUSIVE: Patricia Clarkson Joins Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in Martin Scorsese’s What Happens at Night
Patricia Clarkson is set to star alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming feature, What Happens at Night. Produced by Apple Studios in collaboration with Studiocanal, the film centers on a married American couple who journey to a quaint, snowy town in Europe to adopt a child.
Scorsese will direct and produce the film through Sikelia Productions. The screenplay, penned by Patrick Marber, is an adaptation of Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name. This project marks another partnership for Scorsese, DiCaprio, and Apple Original Films, following the critically acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon, which received ten Academy Award nominations.
Jennifer Lawrence has previously collaborated with Apple Original Films on projects such as Causeway and Bread & Roses, and is set to appear in the upcoming murder mystery film The Wives, in addition to serving as a producer.
Clarkson recently starred in the biopic Lilly, portraying Fair Pay activist Lilly Ledbetter; the film was released in theaters in May 2025 and is currently available for streaming on Netflix. She also appeared in Monica, directed by Andrea Pallaoro, and in Universal’s She Said, where she played Pulitzer Prize-winning editor Rebecca Corbett.
Looking ahead, Clarkson will guest star in the second season of Netflix’s Ransom Canyon, taking on the role of Claire O’Grady, the mother of Quinn, played by Minka Kelly. Additionally, in 2024, she received acclaim for her stage performance in the West End production of Long Day’s Journey Into Night, co-starring with Brian Cox.
Clarkson is represented by CAA and Anonymous Content.
