Former WNBA Star Angel McCoughtry to Make Directorial Debut with Thriller ‘Apt 6B’
Angel McCoughtry, a celebrated former WNBA star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, is set to make her feature directorial debut with the thriller Apt 6B. Known for her remarkable career primarily with the Atlanta Dream, McCoughtry is now venturing into film and television under her production company, McCoughtry Entertainment.
McCoughtry Entertainment is currently developing a slate of projects, with Apt 6B in pre-production and scheduled to begin filming this March. McCoughtry will not only direct but also serve as executive producer, as casting is now underway for the film.
The plot centers around Lady Blue, a distinguished police officer concealing a devastating secret, who finds herself trapped in an abandoned apartment building. The only other occupant she encounters is Billy, a wary teenage boy who shares her sense of fear and dislocation. As they strive to escape, they are pursued by a sinister and violent presence.
In addition to Apt 6B, McCoughtry’s short film Bygones is slated to premiere on Prime Video on February 1, after a postponed release. The short film follows Charissa, a young basketball player struggling to rebuild her confidence, and JJ, a former coach with a troubled past who becomes her unexpected mentor. As their relationship deepens, they confront difficult truths tied to JJ’s history and Charissa’s family, raising questions of forgiveness and healing.
McCoughtry Entertainment plans to deliver "bold, culturally resonant film, TV, and documentary content that amplifies underrepresented voices and sparks meaningful change." The company aims to focus on narratives that reflect identity, resilience, and reinvention, bridging sports, culture, and lived experiences while spotlighting those often overlooked in mainstream media.
