What We Know So Far About the ‘The Boys’ Prequel Series ‘Vought Rising’
Vought Rising: A New Chapter in The Boys Universe
Vought Rising has been officially announced as the latest spinoff in the expanding universe of The Boys, a series created by Eric Kripke. As the original series approaches the conclusion of its fifth and final season, anticipation for its prequel continues to build.
The new series was first unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, where it was confirmed that Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash will head the cast, reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront, respectively.
Release Timeline and Production Status
Vought Rising is expected to debut on Prime Video in 2027. Production commenced in August 2025, and multiple casting announcements have followed since the start of filming.
Cast Details
Ackles and Cash will lead the series, with both actors set to bring their established characters from The Boys back to life. Additionally, Ethan Slater, who portrayed Thomas Godolkin in Season 2 of Gen V, may also feature in later seasons of Vought Rising.
Plot Overview
The storyline is described as a twisted murder mystery set in the 1950s, exploring the origins of Vought. It will delve into Soldier Boy’s early exploits and the sinister actions of Stormfront, known then as Clara Vought. “We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V,” stated Kripke and showrunner Paul Grellong during the Comic-Con announcement.
Creative Team
Paul Grellong will serve as showrunner and executive producer for Vought Rising, with Kripke continuing his role as an executive producer. The creative team behind the series includes Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and others, and the project is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Ongoing Expansion of The Boys Franchise
The Boys universe is not new to spinoffs. It includes the animated series The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V, a college-set series that debuted its second season in September 2025. While Gen V has been canceled, its characters may reappear in future narratives. Upcoming projects also feature The Boys: Mexico, which will be executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal.
