Sky Announces New TV Series Based on ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’
Sky has officially greenlit the long-anticipated television adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The project is developed by the creative duo of Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna, known for Behind Her Eyes, alongside producer Left Bank Pictures, which is also associated with The Crown.
This new adaptation marks a significant return to the franchise, arriving 15 years after the release of the film starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, which was produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment. The original trilogy of films based on Stieg Larsson’s work concluded in 2018, following an earlier Swedish version featuring Michael Nyqvist and Noomi Rapace in the lead roles.
Details regarding casting for the television series have yet to be announced. The series is characterized as a “bold and contemporary reimagining” and is actively being pitched to networks in the U.S.
The neo-noir narrative centers on journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who investigates the decades-old disappearance of a girl from a prominent family. He enlists the expertise of Lisbeth Salander, a skilled computer hacker. Following the success of the films, the project’s development has been in progress for some time.

Other executive producers include Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore, and John Phillips from Left Bank Pictures, along with Sam Hoyle representing Sky.
The series is set to be available on Sky across the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with Sony Pictures Television managing international distribution and pre-sale efforts already underway in the United States.
