Two LAPD Officers Injured in Downtown Pursuit Crash
LOS ANGELES – A police pursuit in downtown Los Angeles resulted in injuries to two officers early Wednesday morning. The incident unfolded after officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Produce Market District.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) received calls regarding a shooting near the intersection of 7th Street and Alameda Street around 1:30 a.m. Officials indicated that the situation began as a verbal altercation, which escalated when a man brandished a handgun and fired multiple shots towards bystanders.
LAPD officers from the Newton and Central Divisions located the suspect’s vehicle shortly thereafter and initiated a chase. Eyewitness video captured the suspect driving a white SUV in a reckless manner, at times attempting to collide with police patrol cars.
The pursuit lasted only a few blocks and concluded with a crash near South Alameda and Bay streets. The collision involved the suspect’s vehicle and two LAPD patrol cars. All three—two officers and the suspect—were injured and transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
As the investigation continues, authorities have yet to disclose the suspect’s identity or any potential charges. Further developments are anticipated as police pursue the ongoing inquiry.
