Two People Arrested Following Fatal Shooting of Robbery Suspect Near Westfield Culver City Mall
Two Arrested in Fatal Culver City Mall Shooting
Culver City, Calif.—Authorities have apprehended two suspects in connection with a robbery-related shooting at the Westfield Culver City mall that resulted in one fatality last week. This incident marks Culver City’s first homicide of 2023.
On February 13, police received reports of gunfire in the mall’s northern parking lot around 7:25 p.m. Officers found 25-year-old Angel Torres with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from a robbery that escalated into violence. Torres was reportedly involved in a confrontation involving four individuals before the shots were fired.
Authorities have arrested 27-year-old Kejaun Griggs, who faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and robbery. His accomplice, 28-year-old Kelsi Ann Taplette, has been charged with conspiracy and being an accessory after the fact.
Two firearms were recovered from the scene, and police express concern that additional victims related to the robbery may have yet to come forward. The identity of a potential fourth individual involved in the incident remains undisclosed, and it is currently unknown if that person will face any charges.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement encourages any witnesses or additional victims to reach out to investigators.
