High School Basketball Playoffs: Tuesday’s Results
The high school basketball playoffs produced a series of compelling matchups on Tuesday, particularly in the Southern Section boys’ division.
In the Open Division, Pool A saw top-ranked Sierra Canyon dominate #8 Corona del Mar with a final score of 95 to 65. Pool B featured #7 Harvard-Westlake overcoming #2 Santa Margarita, winning 83-62. In Pool C, #3 Redondo Union defeated #6 Corona Centennial 69-57, while Pool D had #4 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame narrowly surpassing #5 St. John Bosco with a score of 69-60. The quarterfinals are set for Friday, with semifinals scheduled for February 24. The finals will take place at 6 p.m. on February 28 at Toyota Arena.
In Division 1 quarterfinals, Crean Lutheran outpaced Village Christian 83-58, while Rancho Christian defeated Millikan 71-62. Inglewood secured an 82-69 victory over Fairmont Prep, and JSerra triumphed over Rolling Hills Prep 66-49.
Division 2 games saw Bishop Amat edge Anaheim Canyon 74-70 and Eastvale Roosevelt winning 74-65 against Edison. Mater Dei also made a strong showing, defeating El Dorado 82-72, while Hesperia narrowly defeated Rancho Verde 55-53.
Division 3 featured Murrieta Mesa beating Ontario Christian 64-50, Warren with a slim 56-53 victory over Golden Valley, Aliso Niguel besting Alta Loma 78-58, and Gahr overcoming Woodbridge 65-55.
In Division 4, Trabuco Hills claimed a high-scoring victory over Blair, 99-92. Norte Vista defeated Cathedral 70-63, while Shalhevet edged Long Beach Jordan 46-45. Colony finished off Walnut 63-60.
Division 5 saw Gardena Serra winning against Rancho Mirage 65-49, Vasquez defeating Oakwood 80-71, Pilibos overpowering Temple City 55-33, and San Juan Hills edging Verbum Dei Jesuit 70-63.
In Division 6, Placentia Valencia triumphed over St. Bonaventure 57-39, Ramona won 66-52 against Montclair, Laguna Hills defeated Orange Vista 73-62, and Moreno Valley narrowly beat Buckley 49-45.
Division 7 witnessed Canyon Country Canyon winning 60-55 against Vista del Lago, Salesian overpowering Webb 52-32, Rowland edging Riverside Notre Dame 48-47, and Rialto dominating Rosemead 63-32.
Finally, in Division 8, Redlands Adventist secured a 58-48 win against Twentynine Palms, South El Monte triumphed over Coastal Christian 65-50, while Edgewood narrowly defeated Dunn 58-56.
Division 9 saw Colton beat Sherman Indian 54-47, and Santa Maria Valley Christian narrowly edging Loma Linda Academy 53-51. Pacific won decisively against Mesrobian with a score of 68-56.
Semifinals are scheduled for Friday, with finals slated for February 27 or 28.
Wednesday’s Schedule
Tonight, quarterfinal games continue in the City Section. In Division IV, #8 Hawkins will face #1 East Valley, #5 San Fernando takes on #4 Gardena, #6 Angelou competes against #3 Bell, and #7 Conteras faces #2 Franklin.
In Division V, #8 Legacy will challenge #1 Van Nuys, while #21 Camino Nuevo plays #13 Magnolia Science Academy at 2 p.m. #19 Santee competes with #11 Torres, and #7 Monroe will take on #2 Canoga Park.
The semifinal matchups are set for Friday, with finals to be determined either February 27 or 28.
Southern Section Girls’ Open Division
In the girls’ Open Division, quarterfinal matchups will include #8 JSerra at #1 Ontario Christian, #7 Lakewood St. Joseph at #2 Etiwanda, #6 Corona Centennial at #3 Sierra Canyon, and #5 Mater Dei at #4 Sage Hill. These games are set for Saturday, followed by semifinals on February 24 and finals at 8 p.m. on February 28 at Toyota Arena.
Quarterfinal matchups in girls’ Division 1 feature Windward at Ventura, Valencia at Troy at 6 p.m., Moreno Valley at Orange Lutheran, and Villa Park at La Salle.
In Division 2, Portola faces Saugus, Camarillo will take on Summit, San Clemente matches against Crescenta Valley, and Rosary Academy goes against Dos Pueblos.
Division 3 includes Murrieta Valley at St. Monica, Oxnard at Trabuco Hills, Leuzinger at Mark Keppel, and St. Margaret’s facing Canyon Country Canyon.
In Division 4, Long Beach Jordan will challenge La Canada, Anaheim Canyon will play Eastside, El Dorado at Long Beach Wilson, and Pasadena Poly at Marina.
Division 5 games include Sunny Hills at Bishop Diego at 6 p.m., Godinez facing Torrance, Whitney playing Oakwood, and Burbank Burroughs competing against Carter.
Division 6 has San Jacinto versus Immaculate Heart at LA City College, Palm Desert at Savanna, Rowland at Hillcrest, and Santa Fe at Warren.
In Division 7, Laguna Hills will face Foothill Tech at Rio Mesa, Patriot meets Rosemead, Ridgecrest Burroughs plays AGBU, and Cajon competes at La Palma Kennedy.
In Division 8, Yucca Valley will face University Prep at 5 p.m., Riverside Notre Dame goes against Orange, and Schurr meets CAMS at Cabrillo. Santa Monica Pacifica Christian will compete against Chadwick at 5 p.m.
Finally, in Division 9, Vista del Lago will play Santa Clarita Christian at 4:30 p.m., Channel Islands at Desert Hot Springs, Redlands Adventist at La Sierra, and Sierra Vista faces Western.
