Minions and Monsters: A Fun Preview of Minions Finding Love at the Movies – CinemaCon
Universal Pictures has unveiled a first look at Minions & Monsters, the latest installment in its popular Minions franchise produced by Illumination.
Set to release on July 1, Minions & Monsters follows the journey of the Minions as they navigate their rise to fame in Hollywood, only to face downfall, unleash chaos, and ultimately strive to save the world from the havoc they have caused.
During a presentation in Las Vegas, Illumination’s chief, Chris Meledandri, introduced the film with the help of Jack Black. The sneak peek featured the Minions in the Midwest, humorously pursuing a rogue cowboy across various modes of transport, only to inadvertently disrupt a movie scene, much to the chagrin of the director, voiced by Christoph Waltz. The studio head, played by Jeff Bridges, embraces the Minions, catapulting them to stardom until they find themselves without lines to deliver, leading them to roam the streets once more. In a twist, two brothers, James and Henry, realize their passion for filmmaking and set out to create their own movie.

Minions & Monsters is directed by Pierre Coffin, an Academy Award nominee known for helming the first three Despicable Me films as well as the original Minions. Coffin has also lent his voice to the Minions since their introduction in 2010. The film boasts an impressive voice cast, including Allison Janney, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, and Trey Parker.
The screenplay was co-written by Brian Lynch, who has worked on Minions and The Secret Life of Pets, alongside Coffin. Lynch also served as executive producer; Meledandri and Bill Ryan are producing the film.
Minions & Monsters continues the legacy of one of animation’s most successful franchises, with the Despicable Me and Minions films grossing over $5.6 billion collectively. The franchise began with Despicable Me, which introduced Steve Carell as Gru, a supervillain accompanied by mischievous, yellow henchmen known as the Minions.
Originally intended as comedic sidekicks, the Minions quickly captured audience hearts, leading to the 2015 spinoff Minions and the 2022 prequel Minions: The Rise of Gru, alongside additional entries in the Despicable Me series.
