Tragic Accident in Placentia Following Police Chase Claims Innocent Life
Pursuit Crash in Placentia Leaves One Dead, One Injured
LOS ANGELES – A police pursuit in Placentia ended tragically Wednesday night, resulting in the death of an innocent bystander and injuries to another individual.
The incident occurred near the intersection of Madison and Bradford Avenues, prompting a swift response from emergency services and ongoing investigations led by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
According to Anaheim police, officers were engaged in a chase of a suspect vehicle when the pursuit concluded shortly before 8 p.m. The suspect, driving a Jeep Wrangler, collided with two other vehicles at the intersection; notably, two of the three vehicles involved were not connected to the pursuit.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the incident. The suspect was apprehended at the scene, and the CHP’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) has taken over due to the incident’s severity.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area during the investigation, as road closures are in effect around Madison and Bradford.
Witness Maria Torres recounted the chaotic scene, stating, “I saw a car driving like at least 70 miles per hour, and he ran the red light, so I was able to break in time. I just saw the cops running behind him.”
While the investigation progresses, details regarding the reasons for the initial pursuit and the specifics surrounding the call that prompted police action remain unclear. Officials have yet to disclose the exact speed of the vehicles at the moment of the crash or the duration of the chase.
The CHP’s MAIT continues to work diligently to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
