The Return of The Pitt on HBO Max: Season 2 Sees a Huge Boost in Viewership
Audiences have shown a strong interest in returning to the emergency room at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.
The Pitt made its highly anticipated return to HBO Max last week, attracting 5.4 million U.S. viewers for its premiere episode within the first three days of release. Warner Bros. Discovery reported that this marks an increase of nearly 200% compared to the Season 1 debut during the same timeframe. Currently, the premiere is tracking at 7.2 million viewers ahead of Thursday night’s new episode.
Warner Bros. Discovery typically shares limited viewership data for streaming-only series, which makes it challenging to directly compare the three-day performance between Seasons 1 and 2. However, the company had previously disclosed that Season 1 averaged approximately 10 million viewers per episode before its finale, and that number surged to 18 million viewers per episode in September following the show’s significant success at the Emmys.
Watch on Deadline
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, The Pitt is currently ranked among the top five returning seasons in HBO Max history, both globally and in the U.S. From January 2 to January 8, the Season 1 episodes were the fourth most-watched show on streaming, based on data from Luminate. Additional metrics for Season 2 are expected at the beginning of next week, which will help illustrate its early performance in the broader streaming context.
Created by writer and executive producer Noah Wyle, who also stars as Dr. Michael Robinavitch, The Pitt features an ensemble cast that includes LaNasa as Dana Evans, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa King, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan, Shabana Azeez as Dr. Victoria Javadi, Gerran Howell as Dr. Dennis Whitaker, and guest star Shawn Hatosy as Dr. Jack Abbot.
Season 2 resumes ten months after the events of the Season 1 finale, set during a day-long shift over the Fourth of July weekend.
